God's Will and Characteristics

by Hermanus W. Smeenk

         If we are to make every effort to become of one mind with God, we must ask Him to mold our character so that we may become like Him. Then, when we continue to draw closer to God, He will reveal Himself to us.  We may also be able to obtain an understanding of His nature and character that He inspired the prophets to describe in the book that He has provided for us. That book, which we call the Bible, will enable us to come to know Him and to determine what manner of a God He is, how he thinks, and what He expects of us.  Let God, Himself, answer our questions and tell us what He is like as described in the pages of the Bible and the following quotations:

What Does God Expect of Us?

John 14:14-16 (English-KJV)

  1. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

  2. If ye love me, keep my commandments.

  3. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

  2. Nevertheless for thy great mercies' sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.

  3. Now therefore, our God, the Great, the Mighty, and the Terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
